How to prepare if you have been invited to an Indian wedding…

1). I need to get a pedicure…

NO YOU DON’T! Unless you are well overdue for one otherwise you can cross this off your to do list and leave your feet looking like crusty bread because no one is going to look at them! #FACT. Your saree will cover them completely plus people are more interested in your outfit, hair and makeup anyway! Trust me on this.

2). Hotels, Hotels, Hotels…

Before you go ahead and book your hotel you might want to think it through properly. Premier Inn and holiday Inn have a massive double bed plus a pull out sofa bed so you can easily have 3 or 4 people in one room. Guarantee you will make friends at the hen and at all the pre wedding events. I didn’t even check into my premier inn at my friend’s wedding! £170 = Holiday! That’s what you get for being organised sometimes… Oh wells, lesson learnt!

3). Girls you know what I mean…

4). Gifts…

Cash only! No one wants a gift! If they really want that handbag, holiday or cutlery set they will buy it with the cash. Even a voucher/e-voucher are lame because it limits them to going to John Lewis, Selfridges etc and with an expiry date. Don’t do that to the happy couple. Keep them happy and give them cash! Indian culture is to add the extra pound for good luck 🙂

5). ‘I need new shoes!’

So I made the mistake of falling for these bad boys …

Which now look like these bad boys …

The Indian wedding I went to was outside and I had no choice but to walk on grass and kinda ruin my SATIN HIGH HEELS. I’m sure I will find a way of getting them looking new again but had I known I would have bought accordingly. Don’t make the same mistake!

6). Be prepared for an adult choo choo train famously known as ‘rail gaddi’ which goes something like this…

7). You will at some point be asked… ‘So… when are you getting married?’ – it just can’t be avoided.

8). HAVE FUN!

Indian weddings are dramatic, fun and over the top but there is NOTHING like it so make the most out of the big day and ditch the diet!
